₹1,86,405 crore (about $19.6 billion) of wires for the wind and sun
India's Union Cabinet has approved the biggest grid-for-renewables push in the country's history: the Green Energy Corridor Phase-III, or "PM Dhara." The ₹1,86,405 crore (about $19.6 billion) scheme will build the transmission lines needed to carry 135 gigawatts of renewable energy across states by 2032-33 — including ₹50,000 crore (about $5.3 billion) for 50 gigawatt-hours of battery storage to smooth out evening peaks and cloudy days. Central support of ₹54,082 crore (about $5.7 billion) will help keep power costs down. The scheme feeds India's target of 900 gigawatts of non-fossil capacity by 2035, and is expected to generate large employment across manufacturing, construction, and grid management.
