100 kmph across the world's highest railway bridge
A Vande Bharat Express has just done something no train has done before: crossing the Chenab Bridge — the world's highest railway bridge — and India's first cable-stayed Anji Bridge at 100 kmph. The record run followed a decision to raise the speed limit from 75 to 100 kmph on the rugged 111-km Katra-Banihal section of the Kashmir rail link, a stretch of deep valleys and steep Himalayan slopes that took decades of tunneling and bridge-building to tame. ‘The maximum permissible speed has been increased from 75 kmph to 100 kmph,’ said railway official Uchit Singhal, as Train 26401/26404 made history on the test run.
The upbeat factorengineering that turns the Himalayas' toughest terrain into a smooth, fast ride.
