11,000 lab robots in 80 countries just got $40 million to let AI run more of the experiments
Opentrons, whose robots automate the pipettes-and-test-tubes work of biology labs, has raised $40 million to expand its platform, in a round led by healthcare investor Avego. More than 11,000 of its robots already work in over 80 countries, including at 14 of the 15 largest pharmaceutical companies and every top-20 US research university. The new funding goes to software that lets AI systems design experiments, run them on the robots, and learn from the results — closing the loop between a hypothesis and the bench work that tests it.
The upbeat factorscience's slowest, most repetitive hours are being handed to machines, so researchers can spend theirs thinking.
