164 clean-power projects switched on in one US quarter — a record 17.1 GW
America's clean-power builders had their strongest second quarter on record, according to the American Clean Power Association's 2026 Q2 report: 164 utility-scale solar, wind and storage projects came online, adding 17.1 gigawatts — enough to push the national clean-power fleet to nearly 388 GW, roughly the electricity for 83 million households. Solar led with 7.4 GW, followed by nearly 5 GW of land-based wind and 4.7 GW of batteries. The quarter's giant is New Mexico's SunZia Wind: at 3.65 GW, the largest land-based wind project ever built in the United States, producing more energy than the Hoover Dam and supplying power for up to a million households across the West.
