$18 million, seven countries, one goal: healthier childhoods for 80 million children

For the first time on record, more children worldwide live with obesity than are underweight — 35 million children under five, and more than 391 million aged 5 to 19. UNICEF and Novo Nordisk are expanding a partnership that began in 2019, committing $18 million from 2026 to 2030 to help governments in seven priority countries — Mexico, Colombia, Indonesia, the Philippines, India, Egypt and Kenya — prevent childhood overweight and obesity for more than 80 million children. The work is practical: regular growth checks, guidance on food and activity, family and community programmes, youth advocacy and stronger rules for healthier food environments, coordinated from UNICEF centres of excellence anchored in Nairobi.

The upbeat factor80 million children, seven countries, and a plan that starts with food, movement and family — not blame.
