19 of his former patients came back to say thank you to heart surgeon Dr Asif Hasan

Dr Asif Hasan has spent a career mending children's hearts — and this week, 19 of the people he operated on came back, grown and well, to stand beside him. The Pakistani-born surgeon, a 1979 graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi who built his career in children's heart surgery in the UK, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Pride of Britain Awards. Dow University of Health Sciences celebrated its alumnus back home, saying the reunion said more than the trophy could: behind every operation was a child who got to grow up, and a family whose life changed with them. The specialists Hasan trained now carry that same care to a new generation of young heart patients.

The upbeat factornineteen grown-up thank-yous, standing in one room, for one surgeon's lifetime of mended hearts.
