19 young Canadians, one record class: the Jean Lumb Awards just had their biggest year
From a piano virtuoso in Vancouver to a community-concert champion in Richmond, 19 young Canadians have been named Jean Lumb Award winners — the largest class in the scholarships' 29 years. The awards honour students of Chinese heritage across the country: nine from Ontario, eight from British Columbia, and one each from Alberta and Manitoba. This year brought a first — two sisters from Victoria, one in high school and one at university, both recognised for sailing. Since 1998, more than 185 alumni have gone on to serve their communities; the 2026 class will be celebrated on 1 November at the University of Toronto's Hart House.
