2.04 metres and a new Games record: Nishad Kumar flies as India's para team piles up medals

Nishad Kumar soared over 2.04 metres in Aichi-Nagoya — a new Games record and a gold medal in the men's high jump T47, on a day when India's para athletes seemed to collect medals in every direction they turned. Deepthi Jeevanji took gold in the women's 400m T20, Pranav Soorma won the men's discus, and Simran sprinted to gold in the women's 200m T12 while her teammate Tejalben Damor took bronze in the same race. Preeti Pal's silver in the 200m T35 — 2.66 seconds faster than her 2022 self — helped push India's tally to 30 medals. Records and personal bests, not just podiums: a team measuring itself against its own yesterday, and winning.

The upbeat factora bar set at 2.04 metres, cleared — and a whole team rising with it.
