2,500 coffee-farming families in the Rwenzori foothills get a climate-smart lifeline

In Kasese and Bunyangabu districts of western Uganda, a new $1.46 million project — run by WWF-Uganda, Kima Foods and Kyagalanyi Coffee Limited, funded by Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs — is putting 2,500 coffee-growing households on a path to better harvests and healthier land through 2029. WWF coordinator Harriet Kokugonza described how poor practices have degraded soils and squeezed incomes in the area; the project answers with demonstration farms, community nurseries, easier financing for farmers, village savings groups, and landscape restoration work. Local leaders at the launch asked for it to reach even more families. Coffee becomes a source of household welfare, not just a cash crop.
