£2 million (about $2.7 million) is about to light up hospitals and markets across Africa
A UK-backed fund called ZE-Gen has committed over £2 million (about $2.7 million) to ten clean-energy projects across eight African countries. In Kenya, an Oxford spin-out will help hospitals ditch diesel generators; in Nigeria, 100 solar cold-storage units will keep fish and dairy fresh in busy markets; in Mozambique, fishing villages get solar-powered cold chains. Each project moves proven technology from pilot to real-world scale — power for clinics, telecom towers, and small businesses that can't afford to go dark.
