29 new towers switch on rural mobile coverage across Africa

In rural corners of Africa where a phone signal can mean a market price, a money transfer or a call for help, NuRAN Wireless switched on 29 more mobile towers in October. The sites are part of a contracted backlog of more than 5,000 towers with operators Orange and MTN across eight countries, aimed squarely at the coverage gap: about 55% of Sub-Saharan Africa's people live in rural areas, and 13% remain outside mobile-internet coverage altogether, according to GSMA figures. The towers run on low-power equipment backed by solar, battery and hybrid power through the company's NuEnergy platform, built for places the grid does not reach.

The upbeat factorevery tower is a village a little less cut off — from banks, markets, family and help.
