293 tests, zero new Ebola cases: Kenya's contact-tracing net holds
On Sunday morning, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale stood before reporters in Nairobi with the numbers every epidemiologist wanted to hear: of 293 samples tested since the first imported Ebola case was confirmed, only the original patient — a Kenyan man who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo for seven years before travelling through Uganda to Nairobi — came back positive. Of the 122 contacts traced, 108 (88.5%) are in quarantine and being monitored daily, and none has developed symptoms. At the country's entry points, more than 667,000 travellers have been screened across 26 border posts. The virus, which took the man's life on October 5, stopped with him.
The upbeat factorcontainment you can count — a fast, calm public-health machine catching every ripple before it spreads.
