€3.4 billion (about $4 billion) for 77 net-zero projects across Europe

The European Commission has selected 77 net-zero technology projects to share €3.4 billion (about $4 billion) from the Innovation Fund, paid for by the EU's Emissions Trading System — polluters' payments, recycled into the technologies meant to replace them. Spread across 23 countries, the projects cover industrial decarbonisation, renewable energy, clean mobility and advanced nuclear, and the Commission estimates they will cut 290 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent emissions in their first ten years. It is climate policy with a receipt: named projects, a named fund, and a number to check the future against.

The upbeat factorcarbon money funding its own replacements — 77 projects, 23 countries, one very large down payment.
