3,500 cartons of therapeutic food reach Laos to treat 3,500 young children with severe malnutrition

In Savannakhet province, health workers now have 3,500 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food — a vitamin-packed paste that needs no cooking or clean water — to treat 3,500 children under five with severe acute malnutrition. The £200,000 (about $268,000) supply, funded by the United Kingdom and handed over with UNICEF on November 2, covers three provinces where child wasting rates are among the highest in the country. Because the paste is eaten straight from the sachet, most children can recover at home with their families instead of in a hospital ward.

The upbeat factora food so simple it works from a sachet at home is now in the hands of the health workers who can save 3,500 young lives.
