$305.75 million will rebuild Nepal's highways — with an elevated stretch so wildlife can pass beneath
The Asian Development Bank has approved $305.75 million to upgrade two of Nepal's lifeline roads: about 70 kilometres of the East–West Highway between Narayanghat and Hetauda, and a remaining section of the Prithvi Highway. Built into the design is something rarer: an elevated section across the Barandabhar corridor near Chitwan, restoring a route wildlife have always used and cutting collisions between animals and vehicles. The package — a $285 million loan, a $20 million grant and technical assistance — also funds climate-resilient drainage and bridges, road-safety work, training for women, and sustainable tourism around Chitwan.
