367,774 children, one shield: Lakes State rolls out its polio vaccination drive
In Rumbek Central County, health workers have fanned out across all eight counties of Lakes State, South Sudan, with a simple mission: reach every child under five. The campaign, run by the state and national health ministries with UNICEF and the World Health Organization, aims to vaccinate 367,774 young children against polio using two kinds of oral vaccine drops. Launching the drive at Matangai Primary Health Care Centre, Caretaker Governor Rin Tueny Mabor urged parents to bring every eligible child forward — 'no child left unvaccinated' is the campaign's theme, and in a state where reaching remote families takes real effort, the vaccinators are going door to door to keep that promise.
