€40 million (about $47 million) to turn university breakthroughs into deeptech businesses

Good ideas die in laboratories every day for want of a bridge to the real world. The European Institute of Innovation and Technology has opened a €40 million (about $47 million) call to build that bridge: consortia of universities, businesses, research organisations and public bodies can win up to €1.25 million over 18 months to turn research in advanced manufacturing, deeptech and STEM into working businesses, teaching students and researchers the entrepreneurial skills to carry their own inventions out of the lab. 'It helps researchers take the step from breakthrough to business,' says EIT Director Martin Kern.
