43 days alone on the Pacific: Kelsey Pfendler rows into the record books, twice
Kelsey Pfendler, 31, rowed solo from Monterey, California, to O'ahu, Hawaii — 2,039 nautical miles (3,776 km) alone in a boat named Lily. She finished in 43 days, 17 hours and 55 minutes, nearly halving the previous women's record of 86 days and beating even the men's mark, to become both the fastest and the youngest woman to row the Mid-Pacific solo. 'I truly love ocean rowing,' she told Guinness World Records. 'I love every piece of it.'
The upbeat factorone woman, one small boat, and an ocean crossed in half the record time.
