53 lakh voices, one big reading party
More than 53 lakh children and teachers across 11 Indian states picked up books together for the country's biggest reading celebration, Room to Read India's "India Gets Reading," now in its eighth year. From Bihar to Karnataka, children read stories in the languages they speak at home — because a book you understand is a door you can walk through. "A child in a remote district should have the same opportunity to become a reader as a child anywhere else in India," said Poornima Garg, the organization's country director.
The upbeat factorThe upbeat factor: reading as a national party — joy in 53 lakh new doors opening at once.
