54 young volunteers hauled 542 kg (about 1,195 lb) of waste off Lagoon Beach

Peace, the young volunteers say, is something you do. Fifty-four volunteers in Cape Town, South Africa collected 542 kilograms (about 1,195 pounds) of waste from Lagoon Beach in a youth-led clean-up organised by HWPL, the International Peace Youth Group and Save A Fishie, part of the Peace My City campaign first launched in Gugulethu in 2017. The day also celebrated the Pieces for Peace art competition winners — Caylee Oser, 14, and Catharine Monzinger. 'Peace does not come just with words; it is realized through actions,' an HWPL representative said, as the groups planned further clean-ups with local schools and the city's waste department.
