57 species new to science found in an Argentine canyon twice as deep as the Grand Canyon

Twenty Latin American and European taxonomists examining specimens from the 2025 Mar del Plata Canyon expedition confirmed 57 new marine species and five new genera — including 'Loki the Sea Cucumber,' found 2,577 meters down. Among the copepods examined so far, every single one was new to science.
