6,500 volunteers swept Accra clean and planted legacy trees in a single day

Accra woke up and picked up its brooms. More than 6,500 volunteers mobilised by the Let Love Lead NGO took to the streets of Ghana's capital for its Green & Clean Initiative — sweeping roads, collecting plastic waste, clearing choked drains along Independence Avenue, and planting more than 20 legacy trees. The turnout brought together sanitation groups, keep-fit clubs, students from schools and universities across the city, volunteers from South Africa and members of the Ghanaian diaspora. The day also launched a Culture of Cleanliness Campaign running from 2027 to 2032, aiming to make care for shared streets a lasting habit, not a one-off event.

The upbeat factor6,500 neighbours, one cleaner capital — and a five-year promise to keep it that way.
