660 Halloween goodie bags: one Detroit family is bringing trick-or-treating back, street by street
On Stoepel Street in Detroit, Angelette Green and her family spent weeks filling 660 goodie bags for Halloween — up from 200 when they started in 2017 to revive door-to-door trick-or-treating in a neighbourhood where it had all but vanished. Sisters, an aunt, a cousin and a niece formed the assembly line; their mother Frances, 94, who raised eight children plus two of her sister's, is the family's inspiration. 'I do what I do for the safety and delight of the kids and their parents,' Green said — and yes, parents who ask get a bag of their own.
The upbeat factorone family's assembly line quietly rebuilt a whole neighbourhood's Halloween.
