70 million acres, protected: a new Bolivian reserve the size of a small country tips the total

Rainforest Trust and its partners have now helped protect more than 70 million acres worldwide — adding 10 million in just eight months. The milestone came with a new municipal wildlife reserve in Baures, Bolivia, safeguarding nearly 715,000 acres along the Iténez River: home to jaguars, Amazon river dolphins, giant otters and 489 bird species, and stitched into a chain of protected areas shared with Brazil.

The upbeat factorconservation is speeding up, not slowing down — 10 million acres in eight months.
