70 rhinos just flew 3,400 km to a new life — the largest move of its kind
The cargo was precious and very much alive: 70 southern white rhinos, flown from South Africa's Munywana Conservancy to Kigali aboard a Boeing 747, then trucked in two batches of 35 to Akagera National Park. The 3,400-kilometre journey is the largest rhino translocation in African history — part of African Parks' Rhino Rewild plan to move 2,000 rhinos to safe protected areas across the continent. A dedicated veterinary team will watch over the newcomers for weeks as they settle into their new home.
The upbeat factor70 giants, one second chance — conservation thinking at its boldest.
