$815 million in sunshine: five South Carolina solar farms just got the money to get built
Charleston-based energyRe has closed an $815 million financing package for five large solar projects across South Carolina, together adding about 360 megawatts of generating capacity, locked in under 25-year power contracts. The company calls it one of the largest solar-only financings in the state's history. Bank of America, Canada's CIBC and Santander backed the deal for the five projects — Shorthorn, Culpepper, Clarendon, Rollins and Ross — which are expected to create construction and operations jobs and bring tens of millions of dollars in revenue to local governments. energyRe says it has broken ground on about 450 megawatts in the past year, and its solar portfolio now tops 1.8 gigawatts across four states.
