900 miles in 24 hours on a motocross bike: two Italians rode a dirt track into the record books
A motocross bike is built for jumps and mud, not marathons — which is what makes Silvio Sabba and Valerio Boni's new Guinness World Record so gloriously unreasonable. On a dirt track outside Milan, the Italian pair rode a completely stock Ducati Desmo450 for 1,448.732 kilometres (900.2 miles) in 24 hours — 1,588 laps — stopping only to refuel and for a single oil-and-filter change that took under 17 minutes. The ride, completed on October 1 and reported this week, sets the record for the longest distance covered on a motocross bike in a day.
The upbeat factorthe wrong bike, the right stubbornness — 1,588 laps of it.
