A 1,000-year-old tapestry is visiting London — so Britain is reenacting 1066
The Bayeux Tapestry's rare London outing has done something wonderful: it has drawn history lovers back to the fields of the Battle of Hastings, where enthusiasts are staging full reenactments of the 1066 clash. NPR reporter Henry Larson found a scene of chainmail, mead and earnest Englishmen taking the Norman Conquest very seriously — and having enormous fun. Sometimes the best museum gift shop is a muddy field.
