A €1 million (about $1.12 million) grant will carry a Kenyan solar company into Uganda and Zambia
Solarise Africa, founded in Kenya in 2018, leases solar systems to businesses so they can get clean power without buying the panels outright. It has now secured a €1 million (about $1.12 million) grant from EEP Africa to expand into Uganda and Zambia — and will match it with another €1 million of its own. Over 24 months the programme aims to install 3 megawatts of solar and battery capacity, generate at least 4.5 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity, and avoid about 3,600 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions.
The upbeat factorone grant, matched euro for euro, turns a Kenyan idea into clean power for businesses in three countries.
