A $10,000 grant backs the free platform helping girls get spotted in a booming new sport

Flag football is the fastest-growing girls' sport in the USA: more than 250 college programmes now exist, a first NCAA championship is expected in 2028, and the sport makes its Olympic debut the same year. Yet as scholarships multiply, families had no dedicated place for a young player to be seen by college coaches. Elizabeth Godek and Nancy Ketola built one — SheFlag, a free platform where athletes post verified details, film and achievements — and WomensNet has now named it a recipient of its $10,000 Amber Startup Grant. The money goes on outreach to more athletes, and as a monthly winner SheFlag is also in line for one of three $50,000 year-end grants.

The upbeat factora free place to be found means a girl's shot at a scholarship depends on her game, not on who her family knows.
