A 12-year-old cancer survivor was honoured for helping other kids

Debbie Ong En Yu was diagnosed with bone cancer in kindergarten and later had her right leg amputated — but she still volunteers as a recess buddy for a younger pupil struggling to settle into school, and trains as one of Singapore's youngest para table-tennis prospects. She was one of 194 students from 81 schools recognised at the Singapore Silent Heroes Student Awards.
