A$120,000 (about $79,000) more for koalas: a hospital rebuilt, a breeding programme backed
Koala Conservation Australia's Port Macquarie hospital has been redeveloped with a new clinic featuring temperature-controlled intensive care units and smart misting systems — and carmaker Chery Australia has added A$120,000 (about $79,000) to support it, bringing its 2026 contributions to more than A$250,000 (about $164,000), funded by A$10 (about $7) from every vehicle it sells. The money also backs a world-first wild koala breeding programme. Among the current patients is Nigel, a koala who lost a leg after tangling with a wire fence and is recovering with what carers call resilience and a cheeky personality.
The upbeat factorintensive care, a breeding programme and one very determined three-legged koala named Nigel.
