A 3,000-drive volunteer legend: Kitchener names Randy McCarten its 2026 Senior of the Year

The City of Kitchener named community volunteer Randy McCarten its 2026 Senior of the Year, honoring citizens over 65 who enrich civic life. McCarten has been a volunteer driver with Family & Children’s Services for more than 15 years, completing 3,000+ drives helping children get to school, access programs and stay connected with family. He also spent 30+ years leading the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association and serves as a director with the Kitchener Rangers, creating inclusive experiences for young athletes.
