A 30-foot waste dump outside Dhaka is now a 4-kilometre garden

For nearly two decades, waste dumped at Aminbazar piled 30 feet high beside the Dhaka–Aricha highway. Over three months, crews supervised by Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam cleared it away — and on 18 October Prime Minister Tarique Rahman planted a sapling to open what stands there now: a garden nearly 4 kilometres long holding 6,585 trees and plants, including 1,050 neem trees. Twenty surface drains carry water away, and a small solar panel and wind turbine power 120 lights along the stretch. A dumping ground became the green front door to a highway.

The upbeat factorthe ugliest stretch of road in the district is now the one with the trees.
