A 350-person human chain winds through Chennai to save sight

Marking World Sight Day on 8 October, Chennai held an eye-care awareness day that put people front and center: more than 350 residents — ITI students, volunteers, eye-care professionals, and 53 visually impaired volunteers from Nethrodaya Social Service Institution — formed a human chain pledging cornea donation. Former India cricketer K. Srikanth appeared in a new awareness video as a Vision 2020 India goodwill ambassador, urging people to get screened and consider eye donation. An eye-screening camp gave over 400 community members free checks on the day. Senthil Kumar of Appasamy Associates put the day's spirit simply: sight is precious, and screening early catches what can still be saved.
