A 770-km road trip saved this chick: great Indian bustard born wild in Gujarat after a decade
For the first time in ten years, a great Indian bustard chick hatched in Gujarat's wild grasslands. A fertile egg was ferried in a hand-held incubator on a 19-hour non-stop road journey from Rajasthan, then slipped into the nest of a wild female — one of only three left in the state — who accepted it and hatched the chick on March 26, 2026.
The upbeat factorScience did the driving; a wild mother did the hatching.
