A Brazilian physics student just posted the best Physics Cup result his country has ever seen
The Physics Cup, run by Tallinn University of Technology, is known for problems harder than most Olympiads throw at students — and more than 2,000 competitors from around the world took it on. Vinicius Ferreira Rodrigues, a graduate student in Professor Denis Candido's condensed-matter group at the University of Iowa, finished third overall and took gold, the highest placement a Brazilian competitor has ever achieved in the competition's history. He finished behind only two platinum medallists, including one from MIT.
The upbeat factoron one of the hardest problem sets in student physics, a young Brazilian just rewrote his country's best-ever result.
