A cauldron of stars: Webb just showed us how newborn suns sculpt their own cradle
The James Webb Space Telescope has captured the deepest-ever view of NGC 7129, a stellar nursery 3,300 light-years away. What it found is anything but gentle: baby stars are blasting their surroundings with jets and radiation, carving out a glowing golden cavity in the dust. The biggest toddler in the nursery, a star 5 to 8 times the mass of our Sun, has blown a bubble 3.5 light-years wide — squeezing the gas around it so hard that even more stars are now forming there. Destruction and creation, side by side, in one image.
The upbeat factorcosmic toddlers make a mess — and the mess makes more stars.
