A chip that lets a paralyzed mind move a cursor — FDA says breakthrough
CorTec's Brain Interchange implant just earned its second FDA Breakthrough Device Designation — this time for giving people with quadriplegia an independent way to control a computer, cursor and all, through thought alone. A participant in the ongoing stroke study at the University of Washington has already demonstrated computer control using the same platform. The designation fast-tracks review for a technology that could return digital independence to people whose minds are intact but whose bodies can't follow.
