A device called Julieta could bring breast cancer screening to women who never had a mammogram

Valentina Agudelo started Salva Health after learning that Latin American women die from breast cancer far more often than women elsewhere — mostly because screening never reaches them in time. Her answer is Julieta: a small portable device that checks breast tissue in about 10 minutes, no mammogram machine required, designed for clinics that have never had one. The women-led company just won IDB Lab's WeXchange competition for women in STEM, beating 350 applicants from 35 countries.
