A Florida beer club just wrote a $10,000 check to the humane society — and brought adoptable dogs to the party

The Tallahassee Beer Society marked its 9th anniversary with its annual donation to the Leon County Humane Society: $10,000 raised through its membership-card program, bringing its five-year total to just under $45,000. More than 500 people turned out; 30 local beers paired with adoptable dogs and live music — a community fundraiser disguised as a night out. The group also volunteers at Elder Care’s annual Oktoberfest, that charity’s biggest fundraiser of the year.

The upbeat factorWarmth — beer lovers quietly funding shelter dogs: community generosity at its most unpretentious.
