A Ghana technical school opens a solar workshop so 100 young people can learn by doing

Wa Technical Institute in Ghana's Upper West Region has opened a Solar Photovoltaic training centre where about 100 electrical trainees a year will get hands-on practice installing and maintaining solar panels. Until now instructors taught mostly from textbooks and marker boards; the new centre, backed by the EU and the ILO under the EU-Ghana Pact for Skills, gives students real equipment and trained teachers. Principal Saaka Adams put it plainly: imagination alone cannot make a technician — hands must touch wires and eyes must watch a system come alive.

The upbeat factorhope — young people in a far corner of Ghana get a real shot at the green jobs of the future.
