A green star glows where no green star should be — and astronomers are delighted
Among 151 nearby white dwarfs — dense stellar embers the size of Earth — researchers found one shining an impossible chartreuse green, and another in salmon pink. University of Warwick scientists say sodium and carbon inside these super-dense stars filter their light like paint on a palette. It is pure wonder with a method behind it: reading starlight colour to learn what dead stars are made of.
The upbeat factoreven the embers of stars can surprise us with a colour nobody expected.
