A heart test in a backpack and dialysis that comes to you: Kenya's engineers reach the Africa Prize final

Alice Muhuhu's MoyoECG puts heart testing into a portable device guided by artificial intelligence, so a clinic without a cardiologist can still check a heart properly. Naom Monari's Renal Roads does something just as direct: it puts dialysis — the treatment kidneys can no longer do alone — into a mobile clinic that drives to the patient. The two Kenyans are among four finalists for the Royal Academy of Engineering's 2026 Africa Prize, worth £50,000 (about $68,000) to the winner, to be named in Johannesburg on 28 October.

The upbeat factortwo inventors looked at the distance between patients and care, and decided to shrink it.
