A Kenyan solar company wins €1 million (about $1.17 million) to lease sunshine to businesses in Uganda and Zambia

Solarise Africa, a Kenyan company founded in 2018, leases rooftop solar systems to businesses and institutions, bundling the panels with long-term financing so customers pay over time instead of upfront. It has now won a €1 million (about $1.17 million) grant from the EEP Africa fund, matched by €1 million of its own money — a €2 million (about $2.3 million) programme over 24 months to set up in Uganda and Zambia and install 3 megawatts of new solar and storage. The funding comes with receipts attached: the programme must verify at least 4.5 GWh of clean generation and 3,600 tonnes of avoided CO2 emissions along the way.
