A Leicestershire solar farm wins unanimous approval — with free rooftop panels for its neighbours

Downing's Freeby Lane Green Energy Park near Melton Mowbray has won unanimous planning approval: 42 megawatts of solar plus battery storage, enough for about 10,000 homes. The project carries £1.2 million (about $1.6 million) in community benefits, including free domestic solar installations for local properties — so the community hosting the panels shares directly in the power they produce.
