A liquid instead of a capsule: Sjögren's patients who struggle to swallow get an easier way to take their medicine
For people with Sjögren's disease, the body's moisture glands stop doing their job, leaving the eyes and mouth persistently dry — and, for some, swallowing itself becomes difficult, which makes taking a capsule its own obstacle. The US Food and Drug Administration has now approved a liquid version of a long-used dry-mouth medicine, EVOXAC (cevimeline) oral solution, made for exactly those patients. It carries the same active ingredient as the existing capsules, in a form that is easier to take, and Cosette Pharmaceuticals expects it to be available by the end of 2026. It is the company's first approval for a medicine it developed itself.
