A Nairobi school turns lunch scraps into compost — and a classroom for green jobs

On October 9, pupils at Wangu Comprehensive Primary and Junior School in Dandora, Nairobi, watched their schoolyard become a working waste-to-compost farm, built with Zoomlion Kenya to mark Mazingira Day. Organic waste that would have gone to dumps will now be composted for farming, while schoolchildren, young people, and women-led businesses learn compost-making and food-growing skills that could seed green enterprises. Nairobi County Woman Representative Esther Passaris joined the launch with the school's headteacher, Wachira Kagunya.

The upbeat factortoday's schoolchildren learning to treat rubbish as a resource, not a burden.
