A new flower joins the Western Ghats, wearing Tamil Nadu's name

Botanists from the Botanical Survey of India, exploring the grasslands of the Nellai Wildlife Sanctuary, have described a brand-new plant species: Ceropegia tamilnaduensis, named for Tamil Nadu. Found on a stream-side slope at about 380 metres, the perennial herb stands apart with solitary drooping flowers, a dark brownish-purple bloom tinged with white, and unusually large seeds — one more citizen in one of the world's great biodiversity hotspots.
