A phone in the pocket, a clinic in the loop: mobile care steadied blood pressure for older adults
In Shenzhen, China, adults aged 60 to 70 with high blood pressure spent a year in a mobile-health programme run through WeChat — regular readings, tiered follow-up, and clinicians who could see trouble coming. In a study published in Frontiers in Public Health, participants' blood pressure and quality of life both improved over the 12 months. The authors are careful to call the results preliminary — this was a before-and-after study, not a randomised trial, and they want controlled studies next. But the shape of the idea is powerful: low-cost, phone-based care that meets older people where they already are, aimed at one of the world's biggest killers.
